From spring through summer and into fall, flies, horseflies, horseflies, brakes and other insects can be a significant nuisance to horses' eyes, ears and heads both in the paddock and while riding. That's why it's essential to have the right protection in the form of fly masks and fly headbands.

Effective insect protection for your horse's head

Insect protection, including fly masks, fly hoods and fly headbands, is essential for your horse throughout the summer. A fly mask is a mesh or net mask that protects the horse's head and eyes.

Fly masks for horses come in a variety of designs to suit individual needs, such as fly masks with ears, fly masks without ears, fly masks with UV protection and fly masks with muzzle protection, fly masks for folding and fly masks for riding. They are all effective in protecting against the insects that can otherwise cause your horse problems, especially on hot summer days.

Fly masks for horses

Fly masks and fly headbands for horses are an essential part of summer gear for many horse owners. The need for protection can change throughout the season, as can the insects in different regions or areas.

Some horses may be more affected than others, which can lead to behavioral changes due to discomfort and irritation as well as infections or allergic reactions. It's especially important to protect the horse's eye areas, which is where our wide range of fly masks and fly headbands for horses come in.

High quality fly masks

CATAGO FIR-Tech Fly Mask

CATAGO FIR-Tech Fly Mask is an insect mask that is both soft and comfortable for the horse, while also being functional. This fly mask is made of soft and elastic lycra material containing ceramic particles.

The ceramic particles reflect the horse's own body heat, resulting in increased blood circulation, increased blood oxygenation and reduced tension. The horse's ears and eyes are covered by a soft and airy mesh material. There is a hole for the browband. Available in pony, cob, full and x full sizes.

HorseGuard lycra insect mask

This HorseGuard fly mask is an insect mask made of elastic lycra fabric that fits snugly and comfortably around the horse's head, closing tightly around both muzzle and neck to prevent flies and insects from entering. It closes with a smart zipper under the jaw, making it very easy to put on and take off, even on horses that may find it overwhelming to wear full-fitting insect masks. This fly mask has mesh ears and a large mesh area covering both eyes. Available in sizes: s, m, l and xl.

Fly masks with and without ears

Some horses prefer to have their ears protected, while others prefer to have their ears free. Our HorseGuard range includes both solutions. A fly mask without ears may be more comfortable for some horses, while a fly mask with ears provides extra protection. These are also available in all sizes.

Anti-UV Fly Mask for UV protection

A fly mask with UV protection is ideal for horses that spend a lot of time in the sun, or horses with sensitive fair skin that are extra exposed. This type of mask not only protects against flies and insects, but also against harmful UV rays, helping to prevent sun damage to the horse's sensitive skin. Available in sizes xs, s, m, l and xl.

HorseGuard Fly Mask with ears and neck

The HorseGuard Alae insect mask provides UV protection and also has a neck and is therefore especially useful for horses that need full-coverage protection against flies and insects, as the neck part fits tightly with any insect cover. The mask has jersey under the neck and a zipper to ensure a good fit. It is available in sizes xs, s, m, l and xl.

Fly mask for bridle

Some horses also find flies and insects distracting while riding, so a fly mask for bridle can be useful. It is easily attached with Velcro straps after you have bridled your horse. Available in pony, cob, full and x-full sizes.

Fly headbands

Fly headbands, or fly strips as they are also called, are a popular alternative to insect masks. A fly headband is made like a headband, with strips of nylon that act as an extra-long browband, protecting the horse's eyes from flies and insects. They are ideal for horses that are not comfortable wearing a fly mask.

In stable situations where it is not possible to put a fly mask on the horse, fly headbands can also be a good alternative. Fly headbands are easily attached to the horse's halter with Velcro on each side and do not need to be taken on and off separately every day. These also come in all sizes and in many different colors.

How to choose the right fly mask or fly headband

When choosing a fly mask or fly headband for your horse, there are several factors to consider:

• Fit: Make sure the fly mask is the right size, as a too loose or too tight insect mask can cause discomfort.
• Material: Choose a mask made of breathable and lightweight materials with or without ear protection.
• Additional features: Consider a fly mask with UV protection or muzzle protection.

• Application: Consider whether your horse would benefit from a fly mask or a fly headband, depending on its preferences and environment.
