What is a hay net?
A hay net for horses is a net used for straw feed such as hay or wrap that horses can eat from. In our range, you'll find a wide selection of hay nets in different sizes and colors and with different sized meshes. The smaller the mesh, the harder it is for the horse to get the straw feed out and the longer it will take to eat the allotted amount.
Hay in several varieties
At Unamari you will find hay in several varieties that you can easily use in the stable. The hay is available in both bags and nets, and you can easily hang the net in the stable for the horses to use.
Hay for transportation
It's always a good idea to bring a hay net with straw feed for your horse when transporting it. Transportation can be a stressful factor for horses. A hay net with delicious hay or wrap helps to alleviate any stress.
Choose a large mesh hay net if you feel that your horse has difficulty concentrating on eating during transportation and a denser mesh hay net if your horse loves to eat during transportation but you need to monitor hay intake.
Hay net for stables
Many horse owners are happy to use hay for their horses in the box. With a hay net, there is more control over the straw feed, as the horse can't spread it around the stall as easily. This not only makes the work of cleaning and maintaining the horse's box easier, it can also help reduce the amount of straw feed that has to be discarded because it has been mixed with bedding, horse manure and urine.
However, the hen is not only a benefit for horse owners, but can also be a benefit for horses.
Slowfeeder hen
Slowfeeder hen is a large hen with dense meshes that are especially good to use in the horse box. The dense mesh slows down the horse's eating pace. This can be useful if the horse tends to be overweight or you want to ensure that the horse has access to straw feed for longer periods, e.g. during the evening and night.
Slowfeeder haynets are also popular in places such as hiking paddocks, where horses have different stations with food and water distributed strategically along a trail system.
Hay ball with smaller holes
The hay ball from Horse Guard is a smart plastic ball 37 cm. in diameter with large holes. It can be filled with straw feed and either given to the horse to occupy itself in the box or in the paddock. A practical hanging strap is also included
Hay bags and hay bags
Hay bags and hay bags are practical if you need to bring extra hay or wrap for your horse, for example when you go to a competition. They are also very useful in everyday life, for example if you prepare straw feed for the horses in advance.
HorseGuard portable hay scale
If you need to measure the amount of straw feed your horse is given, a smart portable digital scale might be just what you need.
What you should be aware of regarding hay
It is important that you are aware of the height at which your hay hangs. Horses naturally eat from the ground, so it's important that you don't hang it too high, giving the horse an unnatural position when eating. This can cause discomfort and tension over time. Conversely, it's also important that you don't hang it too low so that the horse can step on it and accidentally get a shoe, hoof or leg caught in the net.
