Imagine a bridle that follows the horse's natural anatomy and respects its needs. That's the idea behind the Catago Gentle Bridle - an innovative bridle developed with veterinary insight, practical experience and respect for the horse's well-being.
With the Gentle Bridle you get a bridle with many customization options. The system has as many as seven different customization options, depending on whether you want to ride with or without Bit, with or without noseband and much more.
One bridle, many functions
Catago Gentle Bridle is a modular system where all parts are purchased separately. This gives you the freedom to customize the Bridle exactly to your horse's anatomy and training needs.
Benefits of the Catago Gentle Bridle:
- Can be used as a classic bridle with bit
- Can be used bitless or without noseband
- Can be used with two reins
- Suitable for young horsessensitive horses in the habituation phase with Bit
Customize the bridle to your horse's needs
All parts of the Catago Gentle Bridle are sold separately (except the neckpiece and neck pad, which are sold together). This provides a wealth of customization options so you can find the right combination for your horse.
Do you want to ride with the bridle on the noseband? Do you prefer a cantle bridle? Or maybe you want to ride bitless? The possibilities are endless.
The parts of the Gentle Bridle:
- The neck piece and neck pad gently lift the leather away from the jaw joint and relieve pressure on the neck
- The unique, half Noseband has a protective pad in the middle that lifts the leather away from all the fine nerves and blood vessels that run along the side of the horse's nose bridge. The noseband also lifts the cheek pieces further away from the skin. You can choose to put the reins in the Noseband to give your horse's mouth a break
- The Cavesson Noseband is made in the same half design as the regular noseband to spare the jaw joint. The Cavesson Noseband has a protective pad underneath
- The Headbands are made slim and lightweight with a gentle bend and a curve that, together with the neckpiece, guides the leather away from the horse's jaw joint.
You can also buy jaw strap, noseband and cheek pieces to match the bridle.
Consideration for the horse's lower jaw, teeth and skin
What sets the Catago Gentle Bridle Bridle apart from other bridles is first and foremost the unique half noseband. This Noseband removes unnecessary pressure from vital areas of the horse's head.
The Noseband lifts the leather away from both the bridge of the nose and jaw, and the Noseband also protects the horse's teeth, tongue, barn and mouth in general.
Gentle Bridle reduces pressure:
- Blood vessels and nerves
- The teeth and joints
- Jaw joint
- The lower jaw
- Back of the nose
- The nostrils
- The tongue
- The neck
- The ears
Increases mobility throughout the horse's body
A special focus of the Catago Gentle Bridle is pressure relief on the horse's lower jaw which is closely connected to the jaw joint.
This relief increases mobility throughout the horse's body because the horse's movement pattern starts in the head.
By taking into account the horse's sore points and choosing a Bridle that takes into account the structures that connect the horse's head to the rest of the body, more relaxed, harmonious movement is created.
Biteless Bridle - it doesn't have to be either/or
"I recommend alternating between riding Bit and Bridle. It's both a nice alternation for the horse and also a way to check your riding at the seams. Can I get my horse to go as well without bit as with? If you can answer yes, you've really succeeded in your training," says Heidi Nielsen, veterinarian, equine dentist and co-designer of the Gentle Bridle from Catago.
How do you ride with a bitless Bridle?
With a bitless Bridle, you ride on the same helpers as usual, but without the bit. This means that the aids available to you are direct rein contact, indirect rein contact on the horse's neck, voice signals, shanks, seat and weight.
In recent years, there has been an increased focus on horse wellbeing, with questions about whether we can ride our horses more gently.
One of the areas of attention is the bridle and Bit, because we now know that both can create unnecessary pressure on the nerves in the horse's head and mouth.
Catago Gentle Bridle - approved for shows
The Gentle Bridle is approved by DRF for use at dressage shows as long as it is used correctly.
The following requirements must be observed at dressage competitions:
- The bridle must be attached to the bit
- A jaw strap must be fitted and correctly adjusted
- A chin strap must be fitted and correctly adjusted
- It is not allowed between the bit and noseband
When equipment becomes part of horse welfare
The Catago Gentle Bridle is more than just a bridle - it's a philosophy in practice. A way to show respect for the horse, extend care and choose a bridle design that takes into account the entire horse's body - from the horse's teeth, tongue and barn to the mobility of the jaw joint.
