Catago Gentle Bridle

The bridle of the future that centers around the horse’s comfort.

The Catago Gentle Bridle was developed in collaboration with veterinarian and equine dentist Heidi Nielsen. According to Heidi, the equipment should be adapted to the horse – not the other way around.

Through her work, she provides guidance in bit and bridle fitting, and she has met a lot of horses whose well being has been improved with the right equipment.

These experiences sparked the vision of a bridle based on the horse’s well-being. A bridle where function and comfort go hand in hand – or hand in hoof. A collaboration with Catago was launched, and after months of development, design, and adjustments, the “bridle of the future” finally came to life.

“We need to rethink how we treat our horses. We know better, and therefore we can also do better – that’s the idea behind the Catago Gentle Bridle.”

Heidi Nielsen, veterinarian and equine dentist

Catago Gentle Bridle is the bridle that listens to your horse.

The bridle is developed with expert knowledge to enhance the horse’s comfort and promote its ability to move more freely and naturally.

With its unique design, the bridle can be adjusted in seven different ways, allowing you to use it as a traditional bridle, as a bitless bridle, with two reins – and in many more ways.

The Catago Gentle Bridle can be customized to suit your preferences and your horse’s needs.

What is the Catago Gentle Bridle?

The Catago Gentle Bridle is a step in the right direction for horse welfare. This particularly gentle bridle increases the horse’s ability to move with greater flexibility and strengthens its coordination and balance by reducing pressure on key points in the head muscles.

The unique half noseband, along with the option to attach the reins to the noseband, reduces pressure in the horse’s mouth and lower jaw. You can also choose to use the bridle without a bit, without a nose strap, and without a throat latch.

One system – many possibilities

With seven different configuration options, the Gentle Bridle is ideal for young horses in the early stages of training, as it provides a gentle transition from halter to bridle using the same system. Training becomes safer, and you can upgrade the components as your horse’s training develops.

The Gentle Bridle is perfect for riders who want a softer and more thoughtful approach to riding – and who also appreciate the benefits of a bridle that can be adapted as needed.

Catago Gentle Bridle reduces pressure on:

  • Blood vessels and nerves
  • Teeth and bars
  • Jaw joint
  • Lower jaw
  • Nose bridge
  • Nostrils
  • Tongue
  • Poll
  • Ears

Customizable to your horse’s needs

All parts of the Catago Gentle Bridle are sold separately (except the headpiece and pad for the headpiece, which are sold together). This allows for a wide range of customization options. The bridle can be assembled with or without a noseband, used with two reins, or used entirely without a bit.

You can also buy a throat latch, noseband, and cheekpieces that match the bridle.

Measuring guide for each part

A: Half noseband
Measure from one cheekbone to the other. Take the measurement approx. 1 cm below the cheekbone.

B: Chin strap for half noseband
Measure from the position of one noseband ring, under the chin, to the position of the other noseband ring.

C: Cheek piece for half noseband
Measure from the noseband ring, along the cheekbone, to the outer corner of the eye.

D: Cheek piece for headpiece
Measure from the bit ring to the middle of the eye. Note: Consider the size of the bit rings if you use multiple bits. Measuring with a bridle on the horse may give greater accuracy.

E: Headpiece
Measure from the lower edge of one ear, over the poll, to the lower edge of the other ear.

F: Browband
Measure from the lower edge of one ear, across the forehead, to the lower edge of the other ear.

G: Middle throatlatch
Measure from the middle of one cheekbone, under the throat, to the middle of the other cheekbone.

H: Tupper throatlatch
Measure from the end point of C (at the outer corner of the eye) on one side, under the throat, to the end point of C on the other side.
