A One K riding helmet is especially appealing to those who want to combine a high level of safety with a helmet where fit, ventilation, and elegant design are integrated as a whole. At Unamari, you’ll find One K riding helmets in a variety of models and designs—from the classic Defender to the Avancé with a wide visor and the Xtreme, which allows you to switch between different visors.
We’re riders ourselves, and when we recommend One K, it’s especially the combination of safety, comfort, and the many options for finding the right fit and style that make the brand one of the absolute best.
Why choose a One K riding helmet?
The most important thing about a riding helmet isn’t glitter, a wide brim, or a specific logo. First and foremost, it must fit properly and meet the relevant safety requirements. After that, it makes sense to look at ventilation, design, and the features that suit your Riding style.
This is where One K has a clear strength: You can choose from several models without having to compromise between safety and a sleek design. The helmets are constructed with an outer shell made of materials such as ABS and polycarbonate, combined with a shock-absorbing EPS core, and select One K helmets also come with MIPS.
At the same time, the interchangeable liners make it possible to fine-tune the fit. This is a detail we believe is far more important than many of the more visible design elements: An expensive helmet isn’t automatically the best helmet for you if another model fits your head better.
Which One K riding helmet should you choose?
The difference between the One K models isn’t just about looks. The visor size and the options for customizing the helmet’s construction also vary, so you should start by choosing the model itself—and only then decide whether you want it to be matte, glossy, or glittery, for example.
One K Avancé
One K Avancé is the obvious place to start if you’re looking for a One K riding helmet with a wide brim. The larger visor provides more protection from the sun while also creating the distinctive Avancé look.
The model features front and rear ventilation and is available in several different designs as well as in versions with MIPS. One K also describes the liner as washable, quick-drying, and antimicrobial.
Compared to the Defender, the Avancé is especially the choice for Riders who prefer the wide brim. This makes the difference between the two models relatively simple: Don’t choose the Avancé just because it’s popular—choose it if the wide brim and profile are actually the look you’re after.
One K Convertible
One K Convertible is for those who want to be able to change the helmet’s look without buying a completely new helmet.
On the Convertible models, various design elements can be swapped out. Depending on the model, you can customize the top, frame, and front panel, allowing you to switch between more understated and more striking designs. This can be particularly useful if you want one look for daily training and another for competitions.
The Convertible is available in both the Defender and Avancé designs. Therefore, you don’t have to choose the wide brim to get the Convertible system—you can choose between Avancé’s wider profile and Defender’s narrower, classic brim.
In our opinion, this is one of the most suitable One K models for Riders who often want a new look. Here, you can change parts of the helmet’s visual appearance rather than replacing the riding helmet itself.
The One K Xtreme
The One K Xtreme stands out more in terms of functionality. The helmet comes with both a wide and a narrow visor, which are interchangeable, and it can also be used without a visor. This allows the helmet’s profile to be changed from a classic Defender-inspired look to a wider Avancé-like profile or a more minimalist cross-country look.
This makes the Xtreme particularly appealing to riders who switch between different disciplines or simply want greater flexibility in a single helmet.
If, on the other hand, your primary need is simply a classic riding helmet with either a wide or narrow visor, you may not necessarily need the Xtreme system’s additional features. In that case, the Avancé or Defender might be the simpler choice.
The One K Defender
One K Defender has a narrower brim and a more classic profile than the Avancé. This makes the model a good fit for riders who don’t want the distinctive wide brim but still want the One K’s signature look.
The Defender is available in several variants, including models with MIPS and Convertible, as well as the Defender Pro, which features extra ventilation on the sides. The construction includes ABS and polycarbonate, as well as a shock-absorbing EPS core.
Choosing between the Defender and the Avancé doesn’t have to be complicated. If you prefer a wide brim, start by looking at the Avancé. If you want a narrower, more classic profile, the Defender is the natural place to start.
Glossy, Matt, Shimmer, or Chamude?
Once you’ve found the right One K model, you can start looking at the design. The One K lineup includes, among others, Matt, Glossy, Shimmer, and Chamude, and here it’s important to distinguish between the model and the finish.
Matt offers the most subdued look, while Glossy has a shiny surface. Shimmer adds more sparkle to the design, while Chamude has a micro-suede-like surface with a softer visual look. There are also models featuring, for example, glitter, Swarovski details, and various front designs.
This doesn’t change our basic recommendation: First, choose the helmet and fit that work best for your head—then choose the finish. The most attractive design isn’t worth much if you end up with a helmet you don’t find comfortable to ride in.
MIPS in One K riding helmets - what does that mean?
Several One K riding helmets are available with MIPS, which stands for Multi-directional Impact Protection System.
MIPS works by using a movable, low-friction layer inside the helmet. The system is designed to allow limited movement between the head and the helmet during certain angled impacts, thereby helping to manage rotational forces that might otherwise be transferred to the head.
However, it is important to qualify the term “extra protection.” MIPS does not make a riding helmet accident-proof, and the technology is not a guarantee against concussions or other head injuries. It should be viewed as an additional safety system on top of the helmet’s overall design.
When we look at riding helmets ourselves, we prioritize safety and a perfect fit over cosmetic details. That’s why we also think a MIPS model is worth considering if it fits your head properly.
How to Find the Right Fit and Liner
A good One K riding helmet should sit securely around the entire head without any uncomfortable pressure points. The helmet should follow your head’s movements rather than slide freely forward, backward, or from side to side.
This is where the One K’s liner plays an important role. The liner is used to adjust the helmet to the size and shape of your head, and the system allows for a more precise fit than simply choosing a helmet based on a single centimeter measurement.
It’s also worth remembering that two riders with the same head circumference don’t necessarily experience the same helmet the same way. Head shape matters. Therefore, the centimeter measurement should be considered a starting point—not definitive proof that the helmet fits.
This applies to both adults and children’s riding helmets. For children, you should not buy a helmet that is too large with the idea that the child can “grow into it.” A riding helmet must fit properly while it’s being worn.
Which One K helmet is best for you?
Start with the fit and the safety features you want. Then you can choose the model based on the features you’ll actually use.
If you want a wide brim, the Avancé is the natural choice. If you prefer a narrower, more classic profile, check out the Defender. The Convertible makes the most sense if the ability to change the design is important to you, while the Xtreme stands out for its ability to switch between different visors—or ride without one at all.
Only once those choices are made would we choose between Matt, Glossy, Shimmer, Chamude, glitter, and the other designs.
That way, the search for the perfect One K riding helmet isn’t just a matter of which one looks best, but rather which helmet best suits your head, your riding style, and your preferences.
