A quater rug is a specially designed rug that covers the horse's back, lower back and hindquarters behind the saddle. It attaches to the saddle and often has a tail strap to keep it in place while riding.
The fact that a saddle blanket is exclusively behind the saddle makes it easy to remove if the rider decides that it is sufficient to give the horse the extra warmth during warm-up and when dismounting.
Saddle blankets are especially popular in the fall and winter, but they can also be used on cool summer evenings. It's an incredibly popular cover for many whether you ride indoors or outdoors.
A riding rug is also a rug that is intended for use while riding. However, the riding rug is slightly longer than the quater rug and does not lie exclusively behind the saddle, but is usually designed to lie over the saddle flaps, with a cut-out for the seat, and gathered in front of the saddle. A riding rug is preferred by many who do all their riding outside on cold days, either on the track or in nature. A riding rug provides protection for both the horse's hindquarters and sides, but without the restrictions on the horse's front movement that a regular rug would provide if you chose to ride with it
In our Horse Guard brand, we would like to highlight the popular Jollie quater rug on the quater rug front, which is a knitted quater rug with quilt effect. We also offer a simple and elegant fleece riding rug that has a Velcro closure at the withers and a cut-out for the saddle, which ensures that the rug is stable while riding. A tail cord prevents the rug from inflating.
In the Catago range you'll find, for example, the delicious and functional Cooler lumbar rug, which both keeps the horse's hindquarters warm and transports excess heat, moisture and sweat away from the horse's skin and coat.
Another favorite, especially for riders who ride outside regardless of the weather, is our Catago Endurance lumbar rug. It's made of heavy-duty water and water-repellent softshell with a soft fleece lining. The Endurance is also available in a riding rug variant, which, as described above, provides a little extra protection along the horse's sides.
In our Catago FIR-Tech range, there are - naturally - also lumbar rugs. Catago FIR-Tech saddle pads are made of lightweight and breathable material. The large muscles on the horse's hindquarters are covered by the ceramic woven particles, as well as our well-known Syntermax Fiberfill, which ensures good blood circulation in the horse's muscles.
