A good riding jacket for the season is indispensable for a rider. Whether you're looking for a short or long riding jacket, a winter riding jacket, a nice fleece riding jacket, or a transitional riding jacket, it's a huge advantage that it's designed for equestrian sports, so it's practical and comfortable - and of course cool.
At Unamari we have riding jackets from CATAGO and Equipage. Both brands are proud brand owners and we are deeply involved in the development and design of the riding gear. This means that the riding jackets you find with us are not only from top Danish brands, but also that they are designed and developed for and by riders.
Why choose a riding jacket?
Maybe you've wondered if it absolutely must be a riding jacket because it can be used for riding. The answer is that there are certainly design advantages to choosing a riding jacket that is designed for riding, including special customization options to make it comfortable to wear on horseback.
This includes adjustment options around the hips, slits that can be opened so the jacket works when you're in the saddle and the ability to zip up the riding jacket from below. It's also designed with good, practical pockets so you can carry your most essential items with you when riding.
A riding jacket is also designed to be reasonably close-fitting in such a way that the wind can't touch the riding jacket and cause it to make noise in the wind, scaring your horse.
Aside from the practical elements, most riders just think it's cooler to ride in riding brands, and often there is also the option to match the riding jacket with other gear from the same brand, or in the same colors or patterns. Last but not least, the surface of many riding jackets is dirt-repellent and made for the dirty and rather outdoorsy life we live around our four-legged, whinnying friends.
Summa summarum? A riding jacket is a great investment.
Which riding jacket should it be?
At Unamari we have a riding jacket for every occasion, season and taste. From fleece jackets to summer riding jackets and the very warmest riding jackets. In other words, just the type of riding jacket your heart desires. See what kinds you can shop for right here:
Aside from the type of riding jacket itself, you also need to consider the look and style. For example, do you prefer a long or short riding jacket?
Long jackets for riding
A long riding jacket goes down over the buttocks and is also called a riding coat. Often long riding jackets have a waist or the option to cinch the waist, making the jacket both flattering and practical. A long riding jacket also has slits at the side, back and/or the option to zip the jacket up from below so it works for riding.
A long riding jacket can be very classic, give a beautiful, feminine silhouette and has the added benefit of keeping the rider warm on a much larger part of the body - including the buttocks and abdomen, which can be good areas to keep warm as a woman. Riding coats are available both for children and as long riding jackets for women.
If a long riding jacket is your thing, they are available as winter riding jacket and riding parka, long riding windbreaker or softshell and long riding rain jacket.
If you don't fancy a riding coat, there are also plenty of different styles of short riding jackets.
Short riding jacket: a smart and sporty look
A short riding jacket stops just above the butt and therefore doesn't interfere with your seat or your freedom of movement around the hips and legs in the saddle. A short riding jacket has a fresh and sporty look and is in many ways similar to a regular jacket because the cut doesn't require special adjustment for riding.
Aside from the type of riding jacket itself, it is of course just as relevant to adjust the search criteria according to who the jacket is for. Are you looking for a riding jacket for women, children or perhaps men?
Women's riding jacket
Women's riding jackets should be practical, great to ride in, warm and cozy, and they should also look good and highlight a classic, attractive female equestrian silhouette. Women's riding jackets are often either slightly fitted or have an adjustable waist for a number of reasons.
Many female riders find it attractive to have a visible waist, and it also has the advantage that the riding jacket does not flutter when you ride. However, there are also many women who prefer a straighter cut in their riding jacket, so there's plenty of room for an extra sweater, for example. There is plenty of room for an extra sweater or riding vest under the jacket. Unamari carries both fitted riding jackets for women and the straighter models, where you can often adjust the waist if you wish.

Good riding jacket for men
At Unamari there is of course also a good selection of riding jackets for men in both classic and cool cuts and colors. We carry winter riding jackets, transitional riding jackets, fleece jackets and vests for the gentleman rider.
Transitional riding jacket
A transitional riding jacket is indispensable when you are a rider in our latitudes. Transition jackets are also called spring riding jackets because they are often only lightly lined and are often wind- and water-repellent. The perfect riding jacket when winter is over but the weather is not quite right for riding without a jacket.
A transitional riding jacket can also be used in the fall. Transitional riding jackets can either be lightly lined windbreakers that mostly take wind and any drips from above, but there are also slightly warmer transitional jackets such as a thermal riding jacket and the thinner versions of padded riding jackets.
See Unamaris transitional riding jackets.
Summer riding jacket
Are you looking for a thin and light summer riding jacket that just takes wind and summer rain on the more gray summer days? Then take a look at our selection of summer jackets. We have everything from riding windbreakers to rain jackets and softshell riding jackets. When summer comes to an end and the summer riding jacket gets too cold, it's time for a thermal riding jacket, a good fleece jacket, a softshell riding jacket - or maybe just a cool riding vest to wear over the windbreaker for a start.
Winter riding jacket
A good winter riding jacket ensures riding pleasure and the best possible focus in your winter riding. There are few things that can drain your motivation to ride like being cold. With a lot of riding outdoors or in unheated riding arenas, a good winter riding jacket is a must.

Competition jacket - a formal riding jacket for competitions
Maybe it's not a riding jacket in the form of outerwear you are looking for, but a competition jacket. Of course, we have those too. You'll find great competition jackets from CATAGO and Equipage. You can find show jackets in blue, black and red, and of course, you can also find a selection in dressage dress.
By the way, did you know that both the Danish and Norwegian national show jumping and dressage teams ride in show jackets from CATAGO? They ride in the models Neat and Noble. You can see the entire national team collection here

The practical features of a new riding jacket
Have you looked at a riding jacket and wondered what the heck taped seams, water column pressure, and graphene print mean? Don't worry - we've got you. The technical terms can be a bit of a mouthful, so here's a quick overview of what they mean:
Water column pressure is about how much water the outer layer of an outer garment can withstand. It is measured in millimeters per 1 square centimeter over 24 hours. Therefore, if a riding jacket has a water column pressure of 5000 mm, it means that the jacket can withstand a water pressure of 5000 mm per day per cm2.
Taped seams is a sealing of the inside seams of the riding jacket with a special tape. Taped seams make the riding jacket more water resistant at the seams.
Breathability measured in MPV. MP-what the heck, you might be thinking. MPV stands for Moisture Vapor Permability and has to do with how well evaporated moisture can penetrate the riding jacket and leave it. The unit of measurement indicates how many grams of water vapor a standardized test of the jacket has shown to leave 1 square meter of the jacket material in 24 hours. A breathability of 5000 MPV, for example, means that 5000 grams of water vapor can be transported per m2 per 24 hours - the equivalent of 5 liters.
Grafenprint is a special print that can be on the lining of the riding jacket. Graphene print is thermoregulating, anti-static and also durable.
Washing a riding jacket
It's inevitable that a riding jacket will get dirty, but don't hesitate to wash it too often. Even if your riding jacket can withstand washing, washing wears out your outerwear. And when washing, always follow the washing instructions. Try our other tips for washing and caring for your riding jacket:
1. Brush, air & dry
Is your riding jacket dirty? Then think twice before throwing it in the washing machine. It will wear it out and not all riding jackets are created equal. Is the jacket ruffled, soiled and full of hair? Try brushing the hair and lint off with a fabric brush or lint brush. Does the jacket smell and need a freshener? Try hanging it outdoors in a good airer. It can freshen up more than you might think. Has your riding jacket got stains from horse breeding and stable manure? Try wiping the stains with a damp cloth and see if you can get rid of them.
2. Only wash your riding jacket when it really needs it and ALWAYS wash it according to the washing instructions.
Materials and linings vary greatly in what they can withstand, so check the care label and study what temperatures the riding jacket can be washed at, whether it should be gentle washed and if it says anything about what detergent the jacket can withstand.
3. Do not use fabric softener when washing a riding jacket.
Flavors can inhibit the technical properties of the jacket, such as the ability of the outer material to resist wind and water, but also the jacket's ability to transport moisture and heat and be breathable. The fabric softener can settle in the microscopic weaves and block the properties the jacket was designed with in the first place.
