A stylish and elegant competition jacket is a must when it comes to starting competitions. Show jackets are required from C-level competitions, but most riders - big and small - want to wear a real show jacket when they start, regardless of competition level.
Unamari is not just a retailer, but a brand owner of both CATAGO and Equipage. This means that we develop and design all competition jackets for them, and we take great care to ensure that they are comfortable, neat and elegant, have a superb fit and ooze quality. With the Catago brand, we are the clothing supplier to both the Danish and Norwegian national teams - who all ride in our show jackets from Catago.
What is a show jacket?
A show jacket is a formal jacket that riders wear when they start competitions in dressage, jumping, in parts of eventing and when they ride hunting. It is similar to a blazer jacket but is designed for riding. It is fitted with buttons at the front and a slit at the back.
A competition jacket is typically black, navy blue, green or red, but also comes in other colors. For example, you may come across a gray race jacket, or a brown one. You can even find a pink race jacket, a race jacket with glitter or other types of race jackets with bling, although they are somewhat less common on the race courses.
CATAGO race jacket or Equipage race jacket?
At Unamari we carry the full range of race jackets from CATAGO and Equipage. CATAGO is a more high-end brand, while Equipage is super-fine quality at a cheaper price. Psst! Did you know that both the Danish and Norwegian national teams ride in CATAGO event jackets? Here you always get an elegant design for formal competition.
Red competition jacket: When to wear it?
A red competition jacket is super stylish and charismatic. Many may associate red jackets with hunting, but a red show jacket is also popular at jumping competitions and also during the show jumping part of eventing, according to DRF. Did you know that the Danish national show jumping team actually rides in our red Noble jacket from CATAGO?
When it comes to hunting, it is also customary to ride in a red show jacket. However, tradition dictates that the requirements must be black. However, if you're looking for an elegant show jacket in red, you can also find it at Unamari.

Green event jacket: Where it can be used
Green show jackets can definitely be used at jumping competitions where there is no color restriction on the show jacket. The dressage regulations state that the show jacket must appear dark, so it's more a matter of interpretation. However, the most common is to ride in a black or dark blue jacket at dressage competitions.
Blue show jacket - a classic choice
The classic navy blue show jacket is a good choice that works across jumping and dressage. Paired with a black jacket, the navy blue show jacket is the most commonly seen on the showgrounds. It's super stylish, versatile and it's hard to imagine it ever going out of style.
Black show jacket - the safe choice
You can never go wrong with a black show jacket. A black jacket is arguably the most timeless and classic look you can choose. It can be used for both dressage and show jumping competitions, and it's eternally elegant and can fit all riders.
Worth knowing about dressage show jackets
For dressage show jackets, they are mandatory from level C and above for pony riders, and at levels 0 to 3 for horse. In the higher classes from level 4 upwards, it is optional whether the rider rides in a competition jacket or dressage dress. When you go to a dressage competition, the Danish Equestrian Federation sets the rules, frameworks and guidelines for what you can and cannot wear and what equipment you can ride with. This also applies to the show jacket.
Worth knowing about the show jacket for show jumping
At show jumping competitions, the show jacket is mandatory in A and B classes, and there are no restrictions on the color of the jacket. In C, D and E classes, a solid-colored dark jersey or club jersey is a permitted alternative to the show jacket and show shirt, according to the Danish Equestrian Federation's discipline section for jumping.
Competition jacket for eventing - what to wear?
Military consists of a dressage part, a jumping part and a cross-country part. Therefore, the rules for competition jackets in dressage and show jumping apply as in the respective discipline sections, while in the cross-country section there are no requirements for the color of the rider's upper body clothing, which is typically not a competition jacket.
You can read more about the rules and requirements of the discipline you are going to ride by finding the specific discipline regulations on the Danish Equestrian Federation website here.
