Riser straps are an important part of your riding gear as they ensure a stable connection between the saddle and your stirrups. They need to be both strong and flexible to provide optimal support and comfort while riding. Whether you prefer leather or synthetic materials, it's important to choose high-quality stirrup leathers that can withstand daily use while giving you the necessary freedom of movement.
Classic stirrup leathers
Common/classic stirrup leathers are double. Fastened at the top of the saddle, going in a loop through the stirrup.
What are webbers?
Webbers, also called mono stirrup straps, lie against the saddle in a single layer, unlike regular stirrup straps, which as described above are double.
In the range here at Unimari you will find both webbers in quality leather from Catago. As well as webbers from Horse Guard in leather or PU leather, which is artificial leather.
What length of stirrup leathers should I choose?
How long should I choose? It can be difficult to assess which length of stirrup leathers is right for each individual. Here are some guidelines if you're looking for a sizing guide for risers.
Riser straps come in several lengths. Here at Unamari they are available in lengths: 115, 125, 135, 145, 155, and 165 cm. depending on the type. This means that we cover the entire spectrum of rider heights, from children to junior to adult and even the tall rider.
If we take the middle of the spectrum 125 cm. and 135 cm. then they will often fit well for the junior rider and possibly also the jumping rider. If you are an adult and need to use the stirrups for dressage, where you typically choose to ride with longer stirrups, then you will typically have to choose from 145 cm and up.
What length webbers should I choose?
When choosing the length of your new webbers, choose about half the length of what you use in regular stirrups. 70-80 cm. webbers cover an average adult rider with average leg length.
Riser straps black or brown?
The color of your risers is often matched with the color of your saddle. If your saddle is black, we recommend black riser straps and if your saddle is brown, we recommend brown riser straps for the best look. Of course, you'll find a selection in both colors here at Unamari.
Care and maintenance of stirrups and stirrup leathers
To ensure longevity and optimal performance of your stirrups and stirrup leathers, it's important to maintain them properly. Here are some tips for care and maintenance:
Storage
Store your equipment in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture that can damage the materials. Stirrups and stirrup leathers are often fixed to the saddle. If you want to take extra care of these, we recommend using Horse Guard stirrup covers as described above.
Regular cleaning of stirrups and stirrup straps
Clean both stirrups and stirrup straps regularly to remove dirt and sweat that can cause wear. Both can ideally be wiped down with a damp cloth after every ride, but especially if they have become dirty from sweat, sand, mud etc. This can not only shorten the life of the products, wear your riding boots and saddle, but also be uncomfortable, wear fur and irritate the skin of your horse.
Use Care Products
Use appropriate care products for leather and synthetic materials to extend the life and maintain their good looks.
