Are you going to a competition and looking for a competition number? Whether it's a dressage competition number, a show jumping competition number or a competition number for other disciplines, you can find one here at Unamari. We design, develop, manufacture and sell a very wide range of riding equipment for both horse and rider, for everyday and competition, large and small products. One of the smaller but important products when going to a competition is the competition number.
When the horse and rider go to the start of a competition, there are various rules that must be followed regarding regulated attire for the rider and permitted equipment for the horse. The rules are usually changed and updated annually, but sometimes there are also rule updates throughout the year. Equestrian sport is constantly evolving, so it's important to keep up to date. One of the elements that you should always have in place is the competition number.
What is a competition number?
A competition number is the unique number that a team is assigned for each competition under DRF (Danish Equestrian Federation). A team's event number is unique for each event, but the same for the entire event. It appears next to the team's name on the start list for each class, regardless of discipline. The event number is usually three digits, but can also be four or more digits for larger events.
Where should the event number be placed?
Which side should the event number be placed on? DRF's common regulations for 2025 section 27. competition numbers state the following: Unless otherwise stated in the discipline section, the horse must visibly wear a black and white competition number (the equipe's competition number) on the left side or on the bridle during the entire competition.
This can be, for example:
- on the left side of the ground
- on the tip of the stirrup
- on the stirrup bar
- on side of the bridle
Wherever you place the bib number, make sure it's secure and doesn't bother you or your horse. Many dressage riders prefer a competition number for surfacing, whereas for many show jumpers it's more individual where they prefer to put the competition number.
