Unamari designs and manufactures all products under the Equipage brand, which is why you'll find the full range of Equipage riding boots for kids here.
When a child starts riding, it's important to have the right equipment. Comfort and safety are extremely important for children, both when they're on horseback and when they're in the stable. Many children start riding at a riding school, where there may be safety rules regarding footwear. Riding boots can also help provide support and promote the little rider's riding development.
The classic long riding boots are a desire for many new riders, but for smaller children this may not be the most comfortable place to start. Here at Unamari, you'll find many alternatives when it comes to riding boots for kids.
TIP: When finding the right size riding boot for your child, it's important to factor in a growth allowance of 1-1.5 cm. in the foot, just like when you buy regular footwear for your child. When it comes to height, however, it's important that it fits right away. Don't compromise and buy boots that are too high, as they will gnaw on the hock and be uncomfortable for the child to ride in.
Short riding boots for children
Although you may initially think long traditional riding boots, a really good starting point for children can be a pair of short riding boots so you don't compromise on comfort, especially for very young children
The short riding boots for children can be used both while riding, but also in the stable. They can be complemented with leggings, also known as bootlegs. This is a practical and good choice that is very popular, especially for smaller riders.
In the wide selection here at Unamari, there are different models of short riding boots for children with both elastic and zipper to choose from. Whether you prefer one or the other is a matter of taste.
Long riding boots for kids
We know that many young riders dream of long riding boots, and here at Unamari there's a really good chance that dream can come true. Long boots provide support and often have non-slip soles, and you can find quite a few of them here. We offer long riding boots from Equipage especially for children in sizes 28-37
You'll find the classic Equipage Starter Riding Boot, which is made of rubber but is designed to look like real classic riding boots. They are comfortable and easy to put on and take off and are 100% waterproof.
In addition, we have a very wide range of riding boots for children combined in leather and vegan leather with smart features like zippers and elastic inserts. In sizes starting from size 31.
Riding boots for the junior rider
Children grow and develop at their own individual pace. The growing period presents some exciting challenges when it comes to riding boots for young riders. One solution is the aforementioned combination of short riding boots and leggings, but here at Unamari we recognize that many young people seek long riding boots even as they grow. We have accommodated this with a wide range of sizes, widths and lengths, so the possibility of finding a pair of boots that fit beautifully and comfortably on the foot and around the calf and have the right height is great in our selection of Equipage riding boots for kids.
Measuring for riding boots for kids
When measuring for riding boots for kids, it is important first of all to find the right foot size. Next, measure the calf and the height of the leg. Finding the right size is of course necessary for your children's riding boots to fit well, so your child also has a good grip while riding.
Winter riding boots for kids
Here at Unamari you will of course also find a selection of winter riding boots for kids. Cold feet can really make riding and stables less comfortable during the cold season. Here at Unamari you'll find a selection of warm boots from Equipage. Both short riding boots lined with wool/polyester that can also be used in the stable or the multifunctional short stable boot that can also be used for riding. You'll also find rubber boots in lined winter versions. Both in simple and classic looks and in cute children's models.
TIP: An alternative to investing in a pair of winter riding boots is a pair of warm riding socks and perhaps a sole. This can help transform your child's riding boots into a comfortable winter version.
Accessories for riding boots
Here at Unamari you will also find accessories for riding boots such as spurs and spur straps, different types of soles, boot hangers, boot stretchers and a boot jack.
You will also find bags for your kids' riding boots. We offer the full range of boot bags from Equipage in cute designs for kids. You'll also find boot bags in classic designs. In our Catago brand, we make several lines of matching bags and storage solutions for both horse and rider, so your boot bag can match your helmet bag and products for your horse.
TIP: How to look after your riding boots
Children's riding boots need to be used, and you can't avoid exposing them to a bit of everything. However, you can significantly extend the life of your riding boots by using these tips.
1. Keep your riding boots dry
To maintain the quality and longevity of your riding boots, it's important to store them in a warm and dry room, such as a heated tack room, rather than a damp stable. Especially during the cold months, moisture can have difficulty evaporating, which can damage the leather. If you can't store them in a dry place, you can take them home occasionally and let them dry indoors. However, avoid direct heat sources such as radiators and stoves as this can dry out the leather and make it brittle.
Another important detail is to remove the insoles from your riding boots from time to time so that both the soles and the boots themselves can dry properly. This reduces the risk of mold and ensures a healthy climate inside the boots.
2. Clean and care for your riding boots regularly
To keep your riding boots supple and looking good, it's crucial to care for them with the right products. Use a shoe polish that is suitable for the material and follow the manufacturer's recommendations. A transparent shoe polish is good for daily care, while a colored shoe polish can freshen up the leather.
Before applying shoe polish or other care products, clean your boots thoroughly. Use a cloth wrung out in lukewarm water or a specialized cleaner. Pay special attention to wiping sweat from the horse off the inside of the boots, as ingrained sweat can significantly reduce the life of the leather.
Avoid using wet or baby wipes for cleaning as they often contain chemicals that can damage the leather.
An often overlooked but important detail is to care for the inside of the riding boots. This is where the boots are exposed to the most wear and tear and dirt, which can lead to drying and, in the worst case, cracking of the leather. Start by testing your care product on a small area to make sure it doesn't make the boots creak against the saddle.
3. Use zipper spray
Zippers on riding boots are exposed to wear and tear every time you take them on and off, and small grains of sand or dirt can eventually warp the zipper or damage the teeth. Using zipper spray regularly, especially after wet rides, will ensure a smooth and trouble-free zipper mechanism, extending the life of your boots.
4. Look after your stirrup straps
Many riders overlook how much of a difference stirrup straps can make to the durability of riding boots. Riser straps that are stiff or worn can cause unnecessary wear on the inside of the boots, where friction from the saddle is greatest. To avoid this, you should care for your stirrups regularly with leather grease or conditioner to keep them soft and supple.
