Horse Guard Fonda twisted lead rope

At Unamari, we design, manufacture and sell Halter and Lead ropes from our Horse Guard and Catago brands, so you can explore the full range exclusively.

H Halter and Lead rope are a team. The Halter is placed on the horses' head when we handle them and is used together with a Lead rope when we tie them up, when we pull them and when we transport them.

What is a horse Lead rope?

A Lead rope, also known as a halter, is used together with the Halter when we pull the horse. It is a rope with a carabiner at the end that is attached to the Halter.

In addition to its practical function, the Lead rope also has a safety aspect, which is why we carry Lead ropes with both regular carabiners and panic hooks that can be quickly released in an emergency. The panic hook can be especially preferable for horses and ponies that are either new to being tied up or have lost confidence in it and may throw themselves back if they get frightened.

Lead ropes from Horse Guard and Catago

At Unamari, you'll find a wide selection of Lead ropes from Horse Guard and Catago - two strong brands that we not only sell, but own, develop and design from scratch. This means that both Rider and horse can expect well-thought-out materials, functional details and quality that stands up to daily use in the stable and on the road.

Types of Lead ropes for the stable

When choosing a Lead rope for horses, it's about safety, comfort and functionality. Lead ropes are used in the stable every day - moving horses between the box and the Paddock, hitching them up in the stable aisle or pulling them to and from the riding arena. There are many variants to suit different needs and preferences.

Polyester Lead ropes

Polyester Lead ropes are popular because they combine durability and flexibility. The material feels good in the hand and most models are available with either a carabiner or chain, depending on whether you need extra control. A polyester Lead rope for horses is a safe choice for everyday use, both in the stable and in the Paddock.

Nylon Lead ropes

Nylon is known for its high breaking strength and low weight. A nylon Lead rope is ideal if you want a lightweight but extremely robust rope that can be used in all situations where the horse needs to be pulled. Many riders choose nylon because it keeps its shape and color for a long time, even with frequent use.

Leather Lead ropes

A leather Lead rope has an exclusive look and is extremely comfortable to hold. Leather works especially well for shows and situations where you want more precision or a classic look. It's also a great choice with a chain Halter, where the natural grip of leather provides extra stability.

Cotton Lead ropes

Cotton Lead ropes are soft, comfortable and great for horses that are sensitive or new to handling. The material provides a secure grip should the horse decide to pull and is a favorite for both the stable and the Paddock. Cotton is also a good solution for young horses that need to learn to be pulled calmly and safely.

A good Lead rope for transportation

When loading your horse or standing safely in the trailer, it's important to choose a Lead rope that provides maximum control. Many prefer an equine Lead rope with a woven chain or an extra strong nylon or polyester rope. A transportation pulling rope must be able to withstand sudden movements and ensure the horse can be safely pulled in and out of the trailer. Whether you choose cotton, leather or synthetic variants, reliability and safety are key when it comes to horse transportation.

Good advice for using a Lead rope

A horse lead rope comes in many different lengths, materials and variants, and it's important to choose a rope that suits both the horse's temperament and the specific situation - whether you're handling it in the stable, in the Paddock, or when pulling it to and from daily training or shows. When using a Lead rope, safe handling is essential for both you and the horse. Here are some simple but important tips:

  • Choose the right length: Shorter Lead ropes provide better control during stable work and transportation, while longer models are often more comfortable when walking to and from the Paddock.
  • Consider the material: Nylon and polyester offer strength and durability, cotton provides a firm and comfortable grip, and leather is an exclusive choice with natural flexibility.
  • Avoid wrapping the Lead rope around your hand: Whatever the material, never wrap the rope around your hand or wrist as a sudden jerk can trap you and cause injury.
  • Never wear the rope over your shoulder: If the horse jumps forward, the rope can tighten or throw you off balance - instead, keep it loose and secure in your hand.
  • Use proper attachment: Make sure the carabiner or chain is intact and properly attached to the Halter so the horse can be pulled safely without risk of loose contact.
  • Keep appropriate distance: Give the horse enough space to walk casually beside you, but with enough rope lead to react quickly.
