Breeches are the most important piece of riding clothing to wear. Breeches give you comfort and help you get a good grip in the saddle. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced rider, a pair of breeches is essential for you to perform at your best and have the most comfortable ride.

At Unamari, we design and develop breeches from Catago and Equipage, and offer the full range of breeches for every taste on this site. Catago is the clothing supplier to the Danish and Norwegian national team - you will therefore see many top riders riding in Catago breeches.

For your breeches to serve you best, you need to choose the ones that best suit you and your needs. We have made a small list of checkpoints that are good to consider when buying breeches.

TIP: You can also use the search function on the site to find specific models, colors, fit or features of the breeches you want.

6 questions for your Catago or Equipage breeches

1. What are your needs and preferences?

Are you most comfortable in breeches with a waistband, button and zipper, or in riding tights, which are pull-on pants comparable to fitness pants? What kind of riding do you do, what season do you wear them in, and what do you think is just the nicest and most comfortable? It's also a good idea to consider whether you just need regular riding pants or grip riding pants or maybe something completely different? At Unamari, we have something for every rider, so just browse the selection.

2. What do you like in waist height and waistband?

Do you prefer high-waisted breeches or ones that are slightly lower? And what about the waistband? Should it be wide, narrow, or maybe narrower at the front and wide at the back?

3. Do you fit standard sizes or do you have special needs?

Breeches are generally quite elastic and flexible in material. But if you have long legs, wide calves or a round shape, it can be nice to know which models are good to look for.

  • Shannon from Equipage for breeches with extra leg length
  • Aroy riding tights from Catago and Kalea and Kendra tights from Equipage, all three of which are good for those who have wide calves or simply prefer pronounced elasticity. All 3 have extra stretch and are slightly thinner in the fabric

4. How agile do you want to feel?

If you're looking for ultra-flexible riding pants, you might want to move into the riding tights category, or the Rihanna and Rachel from Catago are a good choice for a pair of pants in very lightweight materials with good mobility that can be worn all year round.

5. Which grip do you want?

Do you need full grip and maximum grip in the saddle, or do you want a more agile feel with knee grip? Most riders prefer some form of grip on their riding pants so they don't slide around too much in the saddle. For beginner riders, full grip is often best to go with.

6. Summer or winter breeches?

If you need extra warm breeches, look at our winter breeches Panola Teddy Tights from Catago, or you can check out our Janet Softshell breeches or Shannon FG Tights. If you're looking for summer breeches, summer riding pants, you can take a closer look at our riding tights in the models Kalea and Kendra from Equipage, or Aroy from Catago.

Are breeches necessary?

Yes, breeches are necessary if you have to ride more than a few times. Breeches are designed to make your riding comfortable without any chafing, pinching or pinching, and at the same time they give you mobility and grip in the saddle as silicone or leather on the inside provides grip in the saddle.

Our breeches are made without seams where you are in contact with the horse when riding and to fit snugly but without being tight. Both Catago and Equipage breeches are available with silicone grippers that provide grip with your legs and/or seat in the saddle.

No matter your level, our breeches will make your riding both more comfortable and easier.

Which breeches are best?

Which breeches are best depends on what your needs are and how you like your riding pants best. What waist height and fit do you prefer? How much grip do you like? What kind of riding do you do, and most importantly - what do you feel really comfortable in?

At Unamari we distinguish between riding pants and riding tights. The main difference between our breeches and tights is the waistband. In the breeches, the waistband is slightly firmer and has a button and zipper. In our riding tights, it is made of elastic bands all around and is more yielding.

You should also take into account waist height and fit when choosing breeches. We have both high-waisted breeches and regular waist breeches. What's right for you depends on your body shape and how you like your breeches to fit. Many of our breeches are also available with varying waistband widths.

Our breeches from both Catago and Equipage are generally made of elastic and stretchable material and are therefore quite flexible in fit and fit a wide range of body shapes. If you have difficulty finding breeches for your long legs, for example, you can take a look at "Shannon" from Equipage, which has a longer leg length.

If you have a curvy body or wide calves, you can take a look at our "Rachel" breeches from Catago, which are thin and very stretchy in the material, or you can check out "Aroy" from Catago, which are riding tights designed in technical fabric that gives them superior stretch and shape retention and an unbeatable fit.

Breeches with full grip or knee grip?

When choosing breeches here at the Unamari shop, you can decide whether you want breeches without grip, with knee grip or full grip. Grip refers to the material on the inside of the breeches that provides grip in the saddle. Today, all our breeches with grip are made in silicone print.

If you're not familiar with silicone grip, it's comparable to the silicone coating that can be found under socks for small children.

Fullgrip covers the entire seat area and goes down the inside of the legs and clearly provides the most grip. This type of grip is preferred by many riders, from the beginner to the experienced rider. Knee grip sits on the inside of the knees and can be preferred by riders who need less grip and more freedom of movement. For example, jumping, hunting and long-distance riders. That said, all types of grip can be used by everyone - it's mostly a question of what you're into.

Jodphur breeches - breeches for Icelandic riders

Jodphur breeches are longer than traditional breeches. They can also be adjusted wider at the bottom, typically with a zipper so they can go over the footwear, and they have an elastic band under the foot. They are especially good if you ride in short boots, also called jodphur boots.

Breeches for women

As women, of course we need breeches that are specially made for the female body and our shapes. We need them for comfort, for the best fit so we can ride undisturbed and, of course, to look good while we do it. At Unamari, we design many different models and styles of breeches from our brands Catago and Equipage. We have breeches for every taste and every body shape.

Breeches for men

Breeches for men must of course fit specifically for the male body. Men often have narrower hips, longer legs and generally different features than women. Breeches must fit well, be smart, provide the right support and be comfortable so that the male rider has the best ride.

These are among the things we at Unamari have in mind when we design and test breeches for our brands, Catago and Equipage.

Breeches for children

Breeches for children should be easy to get in and out of, have super good mobility, and full grip is often good, as it is easier to get stuck. When it comes to riding pants for children, comfort, price and the fact that children outgrow their riding clothes can be important parameters.

At Unamari, we only have full grip riding pants for children. This is because they are the easiest for children to handle. In addition, all our breeches for children have an adjustable and flexible waistband that makes it possible to adjust the waist size. This is done by moving the button in the elastic on the inside of the waistband of the jodhpurs, as you can with many ordinary children's clothes.

Breeches with pockets

Maybe you are looking for breeches that have a cell phone pocket, pockets that can close or maybe belt loops? Most breeches at Unamari have pockets - including large pockets that can hold a phone. However, please note that the pockets in our breeches are classic front pockets.

Breeches with large cell phone pockets on the outer thigh are only available in our range of riding tights. Search "riding tights" in the search bar to see all our styles from Catago and Equipage. However, most of our breeches are equipped with pockets large enough for a phone. The "Rihanna" model from Catago, for example, has deep front pockets.

Breeches with silicone grip - how durable is the grip?

All our breeches and grips from Catago and Equipage are thoroughly tested to ensure quality and durability. You can therefore be sure that our breeches will last for many rides. Because when you buy breeches, and maybe even some expensive ones, you want them to last longer.

Our silicone grips are always thoroughly tested by our test riders before they are launched. The breeches and gripper must be able to withstand many, many hours on horseback and many washes, as well as the elements and stable work. Our breeches from both Catago and Equipage are tested to do just that.

TIP: Always remember to follow the washing instructions on your breeches. This maximizes the lifespan of the gripper and ensures that you have a warranty if, contrary to expectations, the gripper deteriorates too quickly.
