What are winter breeches?

Winter breeches are designed for winter use and to keep you warm on cold days. They are often heavier, particularly good at retaining your body heat and/or lined and warmer than regular breeches and riding tights. Winter breeches can also be a form of overtrousers that you can ride in. They will typically be more insulating, so the pants retain heat better.

Why wear breeches in winter?

Winter breeches are good for those who ride a lot or spend a lot of time outdoors because they simply keep you warmer in the winter cold. Winter riding pants give you comfort while riding both in relation to the colder temperatures, but also by being designed for riding and with the best fit in mind.

What type of winter breeches are there to choose from?

When choosing winter breeches, you can choose between regular winter breeches or winter ridetights. You can typically choose between a heavier material or an actual lining - e.g. teddy lining. You can also choose winter breeches that are overtrousers or what you can also call thermal breeches.

In addition, you need to consider whether you want knee grip or full grip on your winter breeches. Unamari carries both, and has winter breeches and winter riding tights for both women and children.

If you don't know the difference between breeches and riding tights, the difference is that breeches are actual trousers, with buttons and zippers in the waistband, and riding tights are elastic and stretchable pull-on trousers, which you may know the type from other training pants. Both types of pants are developed for riding and of course designed specifically for equestrian sports - both in terms of fit and match with saddle and horseback, stitching, materials, waistband and the need for good, deep pockets so you don't lose your stuff.

Winter breeches: What material?

Winter breeches come in different qualities. Some are lined, others are softshell with a brushed, soft backing and are water-repellent, while others are stronger in quality than regular breeches and have a soft inside but are not water-repellent. There are winter breeches for every need, desire and budget.

Among the warmest and water-repellent winter breeches we have, for example, Janet from Equipage in softshell with a lovely soft brushed inside.

If you're looking for lined winter riding tights, you can look at Panola from CATAGO with a soft and fluffy teddy lining. They are not water-repellent, but more water-repellent than regular breeches.
